Otávio Bueno is Professor of Philosophy and Director of Graduate Studies at the University of Miami. His main areas of research are philosophy of science, philosophy of mathematics, and philosophy of logic, and he particularly enjoys exploring connections between them. He has published over 130 papers in journals and book chapters, including Noûs, Mind, Philosophy of Science, Synthese, Erkenntnis, Journal of Philosophical Logic, and Analysis, among others. He is the author of two books, Constructive Empiricism: A Restatement and Defense (1999), and Paraconsistent Set Theory (with Newton da Costa and Jean-Yves Béziau, 1998). He edited, with Øystein Linnebo, New Waves in Philosophy of Mathematics (2009). He is currently writing a book on visual evidence in science, exploring the role of images (particularly those produced by various kinds of microscopes) in scientifi c practice.
